Our Values

Fundamental to our business plan is our focus on sustainable development. Sun Biofuels is committed to working to benefit the host countries, the local communities and the environment.

Three sustainable developments principles therefore underline the design of SBF projects:

  • Social responsibility
  • Enhancement of biodiversity
  • Environmental sustainability

Social responsibility

Woman With PlantSBF aims to set the highest standard of social responsibility. SBF brings a high level of employment and income potential to what would typically be very disadvantaged communities, potentially creating employment for several thousand agricultural workers. SBF is also currently working to set up small holder outgrower's schemes and is actively involved in community development. The production of biofuel in developing countries will create a source of renewable domestic energy, relieving the country's dependence on the importation of high cost fossil fuels.

Enhancement of biodiversity

Biodiversity, currently challenged by population pressures, is critical to long-term sustainability. SBF strongly believes in the conservation and regeneration of existing indigenous flora and fauna to maintain biodiversity. Clearing the lands ready for production starts with an evaluation of the existing flora and fauna, endangered species, larger trees and wetland environments are left undisturbed.

Environmental sustainability

Environmental sustainabilityBiofuels are highly significant both as a source of renewable energy and in helping combat climate change – biofuels can readily be substituted for conventional diesel in internal combustion engines, overall reducing net greenhouse gas emissions substantially. SBF projects operate on strict ecological and environmental principles based on thorough environmental impact assessments. SBF works closely with national environmental regulatory bodies, and aims to use environmentally benign technologies. Where it is possible SBF aims to have low impact on soils and will use minimum or no herbicides and chemical fertilizers. SBF plans to be self-sufficient and run entirely on its own renewable fuels.
