Sun Biofuels is committed to innovative research and development to achieve our goal of becoming a world leading biofuels producer. Research and development is crucial to the SBF business, large scale production of Jatropha Curcas is previously untested, our abilities to optimise both seed and oil yields will increase productivity resulting in a more economically successful enterprise. Our research strategy, which is driven by our development principles, allows us to grow our business confidently and to maintain a competitive edge
We have an experienced research and development team in place consisting of scientists from both soil and crop science sectors.Currently field research trials of Jatropha Curcas have been established in Ethiopia, Tanzania and Mozambique.

- Germplasm selection and propagation
- Provenance testing
- Site preparation techniques
- Soil nutrition and fertilization
- Nursery propagation techniques for commercialization
- Planting density and growth site interaction
- Pest and disease management
- Assessment of seed yield, quality and oil characteristics

- Development of tissue culture procedure
- Identification of effective mycorrhizal strains
- Synchronization of flowering and fruit set
- Use of biomass and seed cake for soil improvement

Sun Biofuels hosts open day26 - Mar - 2009
Sun Biofuels celebrated the establishment of the first 1,000 hectares of Jatropha today by hosting an open day at the project site in Manica. Vice Minister of Energy Jaime Himede and Presidential Advicer Carlos Simango attended with other dignitaries from the central and provincial government.
